look YOUNGER TIP #14

DON'T WEAR MASCARA ON YOUR LOWER LASHES... It highlights crow's-feet and dark circles. Instead coat your top lashes with the blackest black mascara you can find as it will make the whites of your eyes look clearer and whiter. Curling your lashes is the easiest thing you can do to make your eyes look bigger—and therefore younger.

va va VOLUME

A TRICK TO TRY IF YOUR HAIR IS A LITTLE FLAT: Most people apply condi- tioner as they do shampoo: starting at the top of the head and working it all through the hair. But the hair closest to the roots is healthy new growth; it's the ends that are older and more likely to be damaged. Apart from wasting product, conditioning the roots can weigh your hair down making it look flat and greasy. A better way: Starting at your ears, apply conditioner all the way to the ends. You will gain volume and won't have to wash your hair as often.

shades of CRIMSON

RED LIPS ARE GREAT FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR... but be warned, strong shades of red lipstick require precise appli- cation. Use a lip brush, and starting at the middle of the mouth, working your way out. Blot and re-apply.

growing PAINS

IF YOU'RE HAVING A NIGHTMARE TIME GROWING OUT YOUR FRINGE, these style ideas may help...
*Pull your fringe to side and slide two or three flat bobby pins (the same colour as your hair) over your bangs at eyebrow level. If you don't have a fringe, make a messy part off to the side and pin your hair back.
* For another look, gather the section of hair between your temples and pull it straight back. Anchor it just in front of the crown with two crisscrossed bobby pins and let the side sections of hair fall straight down over your ears. It's very sexy, '70s hair.

clever CONCEALING

LOVING THESE CLEVER CONCEALING TRICKS FROM COOKIE MAG... here's the inside scoop...
UNDER EYE CIRCLES
To brighten sleep-starved eyes, choose a concealer two or three shades lighter than your skin but in the same colour family (either yellow- or red-based) as your natural tone. Creamy formulas work best. Using a brush, start at the inner corner, then go under the eye close to the lashes. Use your finger to pat it in. For severe, baby-was-teething-all-night bags, pat on a peach or orange corrector (anything with an orange undertone will cancel out veiny blueness) before applying concealer.

BLEMISHES
To avoid flaking and crusting, moisturise blemished skin with an oil-free lotion. If you use foundation, apply it before concealer, then choose a cover-up that truly matches your skin. Most important, look for a dense, toothpasty kind of formula. Use a small brush to apply it directly to the spot, then pat around the edges with your finger to blend. For zits so bad you're tempted to call in sick, first use a green neutralizer to tone down the redness, then put skin-coloured concealer on top.

DARK SPOTS
When dealing with hyper-pigmentation (caused mainly by sun damage or hormonal changes), you need industrial-strength concealer, highly pigmented version. Find a shade the exact colour of your skin - if you use something lighter, the dark spots turn gray and are more noticeable. For perfect coverage, tap concealer precisely onto the dark area with a brush, then blend around the edges. Resist the urge to pile it on as a little goes a long way and really clings to the skin.

CONCEALER SHOPPING TIP
When testing concealer colours, step outside into natural sunlight with a mirror to ensure that the shade blends seamlessly into your skin. Fluorescent store lights can be deceiving.

make-up MISTAKE

BRUSHING FACE POWDER OVER YOUR LINES is a big anti-ageing no-no says Allure mag... "Powder is fine for reducing shine on the nose and the chin, but on other parts of the face it exaggerates wrinkles and can make skin look too dry." They also say you should avoid the eye area completely. To check out the 10 TOP BEAUTY MISTAKES THAT AGE YOU, visit www.allure.com

health BOOST

WITH WINTER FAST APPROACHING, now is the perfect time to start boosting your immune system. To give yourself the best chance against nasty bugs this flu season, Blackmores suggests you follow these 10 simple steps...
1. Eat well – with fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, eggs and low fat dairy products to give your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy in winter. Include antioxidants such as vitamin C, and foods containing zinc and garlic.

2. Supplement support – top up your everyday nutrient needs with natural supplements specifically designed to support the body’s immune function with ingredients such as lactoferrin, garlic, vitamin C and zinc.

3. Drink plenty of water – at least eight glasses a day will keep you well hydrated.

4. Stay rested – to give your body the chance to repair itself and fight off attacks from nasty viruses and germs.

5. Manage stress – excess stress is known to have a negative effect on the body’s immune system.

6. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol.

7. Exercise regularly – to keep your body in peak condition and to help combat the first signs of colds or flu, but don’t overdo it. Regular, moderate exercise is best.

8. Dodge germs - Wash your hands regularly and avoid rubbing your eyes or biting your nails, as this is an easy way to pick up germs.

9. Cover up - Cover your mouth when sneezing and coughing to curb the spread of the virus – and dispose of tissues thoughtfully!

10. Keep your distance – Stay at home if you are sick to limit the number of people who could come in contact with you. And conversely, try to minimise the contact you have with people with flu-like symptoms.

For more information about staying healthy this flu season or to speak to a qualified Naturopath, visit
Blackmores.com.au, contact the free Blackmores Advisory Service on 1800 803 760 or speak with your local healthcare professional.

alluring BEAUTY TIPS

MORE GREAT BEAUTY TIPS FROM THE BEAUTY BIBLE, ALLURE MAGAZINE...
* To ensure that you don't go overboard with bronzer, apply it in natural light. An effective (though slightly obsessive) way to check your work is to take a digital photo of your face. This will show where you've applied too much colour.
* Caffeine gels, applied in the morning, and creams with peptides or retinol, used at night, can rev up collagen production, reducing the appearance of cellulite.
* Apply antioxidants before you slather on broad spectrum sunscreen—they reduce free radical damage from sunlight, and increase your sun protection.
