eczema RELIEF
IN A STUDY of 52 eczema patients, coconut oil and olive oil both alleviated skin dryness when applied twice daily for four weeks, but coconut oil had a stronger antibacterial effect—clearing 95 percent of skin infections involving the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, which is believed to exacerbate eczema (versus only 50 percent for olive oil). Coconut oil is also absorbed into the skin more quickly than olive oil, so it feels less sticky and greasy, says lead author Vermén Verallo-Rowell, a researcher at the VMV Skin Research Centre + Clinics in the Philippines. (The coconut scent dissipates in five to ten minutes, she adds.) She recommends using virgin organic coconut oil and testing it on a small patch of skin first.

cool CUT
HOW COOL IS THIS TOUSLED BOB... Cookie mag says this jaw-skimming cut flatters practically every hair texture and face shape. The key to looking cool (as opposed to conservative) is asking for a blunt, inverted bob—which is shorter in back—and side-swept bangs. For this mussed-up look, mist the roots with sea-salt spray to create volume and work in a bit of pomade to make your hair look piece-y. Blow-dry with your head upside down, or just air-dry. For more cool-mum hairstyles, click here.

beachy BOB
I LOVE JAN -UARY JONES IN MAD MEN - and I love her hair - esp -ecially styled like this! InStyle mag says her piecey bob is just short enough to have tons of body—without taking tons of time. They suggest you add hold by working a dab of curl cream into damp hair, and then, scrunching strands in small handfuls, dry with a diffuser. A drop of silicone-based shine serum will tame any pesky flyaways.

face MASSAGE
MASSAGING YOUR FACE is a great way to loosen muscles scrunched into habitual expressions. It also brings blood to the surface, clears out puffiness, and reduces fatigue in the skin. Apply a face serum and starting at the chin, move your hands in small circles and continue to the cheeks, around the eyes, and to the forehead. By doing this, you're stimulating circulation and bringing more nutrients to the skin. Follow with a warm compress to increase the absorption of the serum. For some DIY facial serum recipes, visit whole living magazine!

michelle in VOGUE
MICHELLE WILLIAMS is pixie pretty in the latest US VOGUE... She talks to the mag about motherhood, celebrity and life after Heath. Here's a snippet of the what she had to say...On Heath Ledger’s passing: “I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the fall and winter. I didn’t know if I could keep it all together… You console yourself by saying it’s all a deepening process. But it’s wired. After the first year, the pain is less intense; it’s less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away too. And that’s a whole new reckoning. But every time I really miss him and wonder where he’s gone, I just look at [Matilda].”
On reflecting back on the good times: “Brokeback Mountain was an unrepeatable moment in time, a very charmed time in my life. I was in love; I was in a movie I was proud to be a part of, and with a beautiful brand-new baby. Everything was good in that moment.”

don't {get} CROSS
WHAT IS THE TRUTH ABOUT CROSSING YOUR LEGS?... Yes, you can cross your legs, says Allure magazine, but do so at the ankles, instead of the knees, to help prevent spider veins. Although multiple factors contribute to the veins, increased pressure from crossing your legs can lead to more. So if you notice them, try not to cross your legs.

colour RIGHT
DON'T KNOW WHAT EYE SHADOW SHADE YOU SHOULD WEAR? Try these colour matches to make your eyes 'pop'...BROWN EYES can get away with wearing a multitude of shades, but for a truly eye-popping experience, choose a plum shade. If you want to enhance the gold flecks in your sparklers, try an eye shadow with a golden shimmer.
HAZEL EYES: To bring out the green in hazel eyes, wear burgundy. The contrast between your eye colour and the deep eye shadow will emphasize your peepers. If you’d rather draw attention to the brown in your eyes, opt for an earthier mocha hue.
BLUE EYES: For mesmerizing baby blues, stick to brown eye shadows. But if you feel like something more fun, cool silvers are equally sexy.

AS YOU KNOW I'M NOT THE BIGGEST VICTORIA BECKHAM FAN but I kinda like what she has to say (and this shot of her) in the latest issue of US Elle mag...On raising her children, she said: “[They] bloody well will work. Same as myself, same as David. They’re not going to be the kind of kids that just hang about. I want them to be able to fulfill their passions, but I think it’s important that the children grow up and have respect for themselves.”

smoky BROWN
BROWN IS THE NEW BLACK when it comes to eye make-up. (It also creates a softer look!) These smoky eye directions are from InStyle mag...1. Using a firm brush, apply a thick layer of brown powder eyeliner onto your lids, extending it around the outer corners of the eyes in a sideways-V shape. (Liners are much more concentrated than shadows—they give intensity and depth, rather than a subtle wash of colour.) Then use your fingertip to blend the colour from the lids up to the brow bones.
2. Trace the upper and lower lash lines with a chocolate brown liner.
3. Finish by coating lashes with three layers of black mascara.

anti AGEING
BEAUTY TIP OF THE MONTH from allure... To get maximum protection from free-radical damage, use two different antioxidants, either on alternating nights or one in the morning and one in the evening.

right @ NIGHT
WASHING YOUR FACE BEFORE BED may seem like a boring chore, but letting skin marinate in makeup (and a day's worth of oil buildup) can lead to clogged pores and zits. "Your body temperature increases slightly when you sleep, which can enhance absorption of whatever's on the surface," says Allure's skincare expert. "So you really want only beneficial ingredients on your face when you sleep." Ideally, that means anti-aging retinol, as well as hydrating ingredients like glycerin. If you're too wiped to wash, swipe your face with a premoistened cleansing cloth designed to take off makeup and dirt.
