heidi's WAVES

HOW HOT DID HEIDI KLUM look at the Victoria's Secret show??? She was just glowing... loved her make-up and her soft waves!

Instyle mag caught up with the show's lead hairstylist Laurent Philippon, who shared these tips for totally touchable hair: Let it air dry, wrap small one-inch sections around an iron, and then brush ("...and brush and brush") through it with a mixed-bristle comb.

(The extra brushing smooths lifted cuticles and give strands a shiny finish.)

party EYES

SOME LITTLE TIPS AND TRICKS to make your eyes sparkle this party season...

CANCEL OUT EYE CIRCLES AND PUFFINESS
• Whether those dark circles are genetic or from a sleepless night, you can make them disappear: Tap on a yellow-based concealer to cancel out bluish undertones and set it with loose powder in your regular shade.
• Hiding eye puffiness is all about optical illusion: Start with an eye cream that contains light-reflecting particles. Then, pat on an equally illuminating concealer. (Avoid powder—it traps light and makes the problem look worse.)

WOW BROWS
• To make your beautiful, thick brows look more refined for a meeting or night out (sans tweezers), apply a white highlighter pencil along the brow bone, covering up stray hairs that may distract from your shape.

• If your brows are on the sparse side, fill them in with brow powder or matte eyeshadow. Tap a small, angled brush into the shadow—one shade lighter than your hair colour—and draw short, upward strokes on top of your natural brow.

LONG, LUSH LASHES
• To make sparse lashes look fuller, dab an angled brush into cream liner and wiggle it between your lashes at the base; then, add volumising mascara. For evening, attach a few clusters of false lashes towards the outer corners.

product of the WEEK - MAYBELLINE COLOSSAL MASCARA

OKAY YOU KNOW MY OBESSION WITH LONG LASHES, well I think I've found the closest thing to the perfect mascara... {Vanessa and Nicola, this could be the one!}

THE PR BLURB: Maybelline New York Colossal Volum’Express Mascara delivers extreme volume with a collagen formula and thickening agents. The brush is designed for lash building and volumising, allowing for fast and generous application. The unique bristles capture each lash, depositing the formula evenly and uniformly as it sweeps from roots to tip with one coat.

BELLA MUMMA VERDICT: This mascara plumps and lengthens lashes creating a look that comes pretty close to lash extensions. {Which I'm very happy about!} It's easy to apply, doesn't end up all around your eyes {no panda eyes} - and is easy to take off! Plus, it doesn't cost a bomb - it's under $20!

mid-week MUMMAS #2

A SNAP-
SHOT OF WHAT THESE BELLA- MUMS were up to the past week...

mid-week MUMMA #1

HEIDI KLUM (who had legally changed her name to Heidi Samuel, her husband’s surname} IS A DYNAMO. I think she'd be a hoot to meet. She strutted her stuff down the Victoria's Secret runway only six weeks after giving birth to daughter Lou Sulola... Here's an interview from celebrity baby blog...

“I figure why not? I embrace that I have more curves right now. I’m definitely one of the heaviest of the bunch of the 30 girls in the show. And I still have 20 lbs. to go,” she admits. “But why not? I like my outfit. I like the way it looks on me.”

Though she’ll be flaunting her curves, the mum of four kids (including Leni, 5, Henry, 4, and Johan, 3 tomorrow) says she’s happy that the pressure to really bare her body is off.

Not that she’s slacking when it comes to getting into shape. “There’s no master plan, but I have a trainer in L.A. who comes to my house,” the model and Project Runway host told PEOPLE. “She’s helping me so I don’t overdo it. I’ve been walking on the treadmill. Walking up and down the driveway. She has a medicine ball so she showed me things on there. You can’t do too much too early.”

As for her diet, “I’m not someone who eats salad and chicken,” explains Heidi, who says her biggest indulgence, a litre of milk a day, helped her gain 45 lbs. with her fourth pregnancy. “I have a lot of heads around the table and if there’s not variety they get bored. I mean sometimes I have two to three things to serve and my daughter will be like, ‘That’s it, Mummy?’ So it’s fish one day, goulash the next day, spaghetti Bolognese, then schnitzel. I cook a lot.”

And what about relaxing? Not so much. “I don’t relax and I don’t unwind,” Heidi says. “I have three children that couldn’t care less that I just had a baby. You don’t relax when you have four children at home that all want your attention, and it’s your duty as a mother to give it to them. My time to relax is when I’m sleeping!”

sunscreen TRUTHS

SLIP, SLAP,SLOP! Here are the most common misconceptions about wearing sun protection...

THE MYTH: My makeup contains SPF 15, so I'm protected from the sun.
THE TRUTH: Makeup with SPF won't fully protect your skin unless you really cake it on, so you're getting a false sense of security. Science has shown that for you to get an adequate amount of protection you need a teaspoon or two of sunscreen just for your face. Then, a shot glass full for your arms, another for your chest and abdomen, and so on.

THE MYTH: The sun is the only way to get enough Vitamin D.
THE TRUTH: People do need vitamin D for bone loss, but you can get enough of it from supplements or by eating fish and green leafy vegetables, or by drinking fortified milk. If you are in the sun for 15 minutes per day you will have received all the vitamin D you need—just make sure to put on sunscreen first.

THE MYTH: All SPF's are created equal.
THE TRUTH: Not if your SPF doesn't contain ingredients that block both UVA and UVB rays. There are three ingredients to look for: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and mexoryl. As for the SPF number, you shouldn't be wearing anything less than SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection.

THE MYTH: Getting a base tan at the tanning salon will prevent me from burning on vacation.
THE TRUTH: Tanning beds have now been labeled as a carcinogen by the government. We've known this all along, but now it's official. Any tan, including a base tan, is a sign of damage to your skin—because the actual tan is the result of your body increasing pigmenation in an attempt to protect itself.

THE MYTH: I don't need to wear sunscreen in winter.
THE TRUTH: The winter may not be warm, but the sun's rays still exist. On a clear day your skin will still absorb them and be slowly damaged over time. Even if you're only outside for a total of 30 minutes, five times per week (walking to work or taking a lunch break)—over a year that adds up to 7,800 minutes in the sun.

RoC ROCKS!

IT'S COMING UP TO 12 WEEKS AGO that I started the RoC skincare challenge... and I have to say I'm very VERY impressed.

THE PR BLURB: "Give us 12 weeks and we'll give you 10 years back"... Clinically proven results: day after day, night after night, RoC visibly smoothes skin and fills wrinkles from within. Deep wrinkles like crow's feet, frown lines and nasolabial folds are being filled. Your face regains its natural youthful look. The challenge pack contained...
* RETIN-OX® Intensive Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser - Day SPF 15 - This moisturising anti-wrinkle cream with Retinol Auto Repair (AR) Complex visibly smoothes skin and fills wrinkles from within. It also helps protect skin from UVA/UVB damage.
* RETIN-OX® Intensive Anti-Wrinkle Care Night Cream - The Retinol AR Complex visibly smoothes the skin, filling wrinkles from within, while
you sleep. With continued use, deep wrinkles such as crow’s feet, frown lines and smile lines appear minimised and skin regains its youthful appearance.

BELLAMUMMA VERDICT: Love it, love it, love it! My skin looks younger and my wrinkles aren't so in your {on my} face. They are definitely less noticeable! My skin's tone and texture has also improved - and I haven't suffered from dry, flaky skin once! Would HIGHLY recommend these products!

wet & DRY

WATER IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE but it isn't always the source of a great haircut, reports Allure mag. Here are differences between a classic wet-cut and a dry-cut so you can choose what's best for your locks...

Try a DRY CUT if:
* A Your hair is long. Women who have long hair and want to keep their length intact should definitely get a dry-cut. Hair shrinks when it's wet, so the amount the stylist is removing might be deceptive.
* Your hair is curly, fine, or wavy. With a dry-cut, the stylist can plainly see what he or she is dealing with, how the hair falls, and where the weight is distributed.
* Your hair is looking weighed down. A dry-cut is the best way to remove weight and add texture without significantly changing the shape of the cut.

Try a WET CUT if:
* You want to try something new. The stylist has more control over wet hair and it's easier to craft an entirely new shape when the hair is holding still.
* You've had several consecutive dry-cuts. A wet cut is necessary once in a while because too many dry-cuts in a row can leave hair stringy. A wet cut is great for freshening and evening up the ends.

power NAP

NEED AN ENERGY BOOST DURING THE DAY, try a power nap! Here's what you need to know {if you do have the time!}...

1. Keep it short. Naps can leave you groggy if you let them drag on for an hour or more. Dozing for 15 to 20 minutes is usually enough to recharge.

2. Chill out. If you're thoroughly exhausted but just can't sleep, doctors say that simply relaxing will help boost your energy. Give yourself 15 minutes to lie back and close your eyes. (Set an alarm rather than watching the clock.)

3. See the light. Get yourself back into the world of the living by stepping near a window, going outside for a few minutes, or even simply turning on all the lights in the room. Light tells your body that it's time to be awake.

hot KNOT

TIRED OF THE SAME 'DO', try this easy twisted knot...

1. Mist hair lightly with a volumizing spray, then when your hair is 80 percent dry, flip your head upside down and blast it with heat—the point is to get as much volume as possible.

2. Brush the hair back loosely from the face and collect it at the back of the head. Experiment a little to see where it looks best on you: high, low, or slightly off to one side.

3. Twist the hair into a bun, pinning it in place as you go. (Don't worry about being neat—even the pros love a bun with some visible bobby pins.) The more pins you use, the tighter the bun will be. (If you have very long or thick hair and need more security, slide a large plastic U-shape pin through the centre of the bun first).

4. With your fingertips, gently massage the sides and the top of the head to free up some flyways and create a more rumpled texture. (That's right: flyaways are good.)

5. Mist your fine mess with aerosol hair spray and pack few extra pins in your clutch for the night. You never know what all that dancing will do.

jools IN RED MAG

JOOLS OLIVER IS IN THE LATEST RED MAGAZINE... inside she revealed: "I'd love to go on Strictly Come Dancing." When the mag asked whether Jamie would mind if she was as famous as he was she said: "I asked him the other day. What if I got a great opportunity?"

"He couldn't stay at home and I wouldn't want a full-time nanny. He said 'we'd have to rethink'. Truth is, Jamie would never change his job - but it was sweet of him to offer."

Jools also confirmed she once danced around the house naked for Jamie - and is completely comfortable with her body now, "I've never felt this good. I like the way I dress, I'm comfortable being who I am. "I'm really comfortable with nudity. That story about me dancing naked for Jamie at Christmas with jingle bells on my boobs - all true!"

To read the whole interview you'll have to grab a copy of December RED mag which is on sale now...

cate IN VOGUE

THE GORGEOUS CATE BLANCHETT IN US VOGUE...

Inside she chatted about career choices and her family - here's a snippet...

On career choices: “I’m not very cautious or careful. It’s always been more about having a variety of experiences than any planned trajectory.”

On her family: “When the boys aren’t playing with friends, they can usually be found playing backstage. ‘They’re always engaged in the family business, so to speak.”

a little INSPIRATION for the new WEEK

FROM SHANNON FRICKE'S INSPIRING BLOG...
'I think I can, I think I can,' she said to herself, as she sat with her head in her hands, wondering how she would muster the strength to fly again. Her wings had been clipped, you see and she found the sensation of it to be most unsatisfactory. It's just that, she loved chasing butterflies. They are colourful and so, so free, the way they dart and prance against the baby blue of the springtime sky. They make her heart soar with a sense of possibility. And this makes her happy. And she loves to be happy. 'Yes, I think I can', she said to herself. And with that she spread her wings, looked to the sky - and smiled...

hot MUMMA #2

DEMI MOORE IS 47!! {Gotta say she looks much better than Madonna - don't you think?} Even in paparrazi shots, she looks gorgeous! She recently opened up to Allure mag and revealed some of the tricks she relies on to keep up her look:

SKIN: "My skin is very sensitive, so I use only fragrance-free, simple, pure products. And I moisturise, moisturise, moisturise—that’s the most important lesson my mother passed on to me, and I say it to my daughters all the time. No matter how late of a night it is, when I get home, I take the time to clean and moisturise my face. I'm a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care, your skin will be balanced, and then you really won't need a lot of makeup."

HAIR: "If I'm not working or going to an event, I don't blow dry my hair, or flat iron it, or curl it. I have a lot of hair, but it's fine, so I find giving it a break from those stressors really helps to keep it healthy. And I don't have to colour my hair yet, either—knock on wood!"

MAKEUP: "One product I can't live without is a sheer burgundy lipstick. My natural lip colour is somewhat purple-y, so I find this type of shade makes my lips look rosy and healthy, as though I'm not wearing anything at all."

hot MUMMA

JENNA ELFMAN {who is pregnant with her second child due in March} told PEOPLE magazine how she's kept looking so hot while being preggers...

“I found I’m showing the things that are still intact,” Jenna, 38, said. “That helps with my beauty morale.”

“The legs and the arms — those are hanging in there, I’ll show those. That makes me feel like I’m still sexy despite my whole center of gravity being completely altered.”

For those who may not have killer gams like Jenna’s, she has some advice:

“Show what you feel hot about. For me it’s legs – they’re hanging in there, barely!”

* It's definitely working!!!

shiny SECRETS

SOME SIMPLE SHINY-HAIR DO'S AND DON'TS...

DO use heat-activated shampoos, conditioners and styling products - their moisturisers are released by the heat of your hairdryer.

DO treat yourself to a weekly deep-conditioning treatment or hair mask.

DO use your fingers to separate your curls once your hair is dry, if it is curly. A brush will cause your hair to frizz.

DON'T apply finishing products too close to your scalp — your hair will look greasy.

DON'T weigh down fine hair with a heavy serum formulated only for very thick hair.

DON'T apply a ton of product before using a straightening iron. A sticky gel not designed to protect the hair can actually "cook" it.

DON'T use a plastic vent brush to detangle wet hair. It stretches and eventually snaps the hair. Use it to brush as you blow-dry, to give your hair a sleeker look.
