good to GLOW

TIS NEARLY THE SEASON FOR BRONZER...  It gives a warm glow (without sun damage), it's easy, it's temporary, and even people who are scared of self-tanner can wear it without fear. Here are the best ways to wear it:
Don't push it. When choosing a colour, go for one that looks how you'd look after a week in the sun. (Not that you would ever get a skin-damaging tan.)
Choose your formula. The easiest type of bronzer to apply (and most natural-looking) is pressed powder. Sweep it on with a large, fluffy brush that you dip into the powder and then tap into a tissue before swiping over your face.
When in doubt, go for matte. Sticks and powders with shimmer can make your face look greasy. If you do like a bit of shimmer, use one with the smallest flecks possible.
Apply it right. Target the areas of your face that the sun would hit—that's the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, and around the hairline.

just the WAY YOU ARE

NEED A BOOST... A PICK-ME-UP? LISTEN TO MY NEW FAVE TUNE JUST THE WAY YOU ARE BY BRUNO MARS... {it's now on the bellaMUMMA mix!}
Here are the love-ly lyrics... they'll make you day!
Oh, her eyes, her eyes, make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair, falls perfectly without her trying
She's so beautiful, and I tell her every day
Yeah, I know, I know, when I compliment her she won't believe me
And it's so, it's so, sad to think that she don't see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look ok, I say
When I see your face, there's not a thing that I would change
Because you're amazing, just the way you are
And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while
Because girl you're amazing, just the way you are
Her lips, her lips, I could kiss them all day if she let me
Her laugh, her laugh, she hates but I think it's so sexy
She's so beautiful, and I tell her every day
Oh, you know, you know, you know, I'd never ask you to change
If perfect's what you're searching for then just stay the same
So, don't even bother asking if you look ok
You know I'll say
When I see your face, there's not a thing that I would change
Because you're amazing, just the way you are
And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while
Because girl you're amazing, just the way you are
The way you are, the way you are
Girl you're amazing, just the way you are
When I see your face, there's not a thing that I would change
Because you're amazing, just the way you are
And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while
Because girl you're amazing, just the way you are. Yeah

wishing you...

water BABY

I KNOW I SHOULD DRINK MORE WATER (I write about it all time)... but some (most) days I fall short of drinking the recommended 8 glasses a day...

BUT I've found some info which I think will help me (and maybe you!) drink more water...
1. If plain water is too boring, drop in a few raspberries or slices of lemon, orange or cucumber. Or add frozen flavoured ice cubes - like frozen orange or cranberry juice!
2. Start your morning with a glass of water and continue to drink all day! Fill up a large bottle of water and keep sipping from it throughout the day.
3. Have a glass of water after each trip to the loo.
4. On days when you exercise have an additional 1/2 cup water for every half an hour exercise.
5. Remember almost any liquid is better than no liquid at all - except for alcohol and caffeine drinks - they can actually cause you to lose water! Cheers!

glow & tell: fb friend, MELISSA

THIS WEEK'S GLOW & TELL beauty tips comes from one of bellaMUMMA's fave facebook friends, Melissa... I love her energy, zest and encouraging comments {lady, you rock! X} Here are her beauty tips...
What's the best beauty advice you've ever been given or have discovered?
WATER - and lots of it! I drink at least 12 to 14 glasses a day. I exfoliate, use sunblock, and (the best tip of all from my mother) always be comfortable in your own skin. Once you can master that, you take your beauty to a whole other level!

What are your can't live-without beauty products?
I can't go a day without my Moroccan Oil Light (they made a 'light' version for platinum blonds that won't leave a brassy tint).  As a blond, my eyebrows seem to disappear with my youth from year to year, so I am constantly looking for the perfect pencil/powder - at the moment I'm loving BROWzings in 'light' from Benefit. I also love Benefit's Erase paste No2. for concealer, it gives great coverage! I love a good 60's cat-eye from time to time, and my Nars Eyeliner Stylo in Nuits Blanches and Lancome Defincils mascara in black are pure perfection for that look. In the Summer I'll do a light dusting Benefit HOOLA on my cheeks, and nose - it gives the perfect glow. I'm addicted to the color gray - it doens't matter whether it's summer or winter - and I love, love, love essie's perfect shade of gray - Chinchilly! I wear it on my toes 24/7. Last but not least, I would be remiss if I didn't mention my favorite scent, Black Orchid by Tom Ford - it's GORGEOUS.

What's your best time-saving beauty tip?
Being divorced and raising 3 daughters for the last 8 years, getting a little bathroom time can be like fighting for one's life! I've found a dry shampoo or a little baby powder at the roots is a great quick pick me-up for the locks. And when all else fails - a hat, some killer shades, a touch of gloss on the lips and voila, you're off and running!

the best HIGHLIGHTS FOR YOUR HAIR

YOU CHOOSE YOUR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER BASED ON YOUR HAIR TYPE. Same goes for your styling products and sometimes even your brushes and hot tools. But did you know that there are several different types of salon highlights, each of which flatters certain hair types or shades? Yep, it's true... here's what to ask for at the salon.
Foil highlights. Even if you've never had highlights, you're probably familiar with this approach. It's ideal for women with fine hair, since the dye bulks up strands, while the increased dimension creates the illusion of fuller hair.

Balayage {like in these pics}. Want highlights that don't look like, well, highlights? This technique, in which the dye is painted on by hand (meaning no foils), is especially flattering on women with curly or wavy hair to create natural-looking streaks. On each section of hair, the colour is applied lightly at the roots and gradually gets brighter toward the ends, which mimics the way hair would be lightened by the sun. It also makes for less obvious roots as the colour grows out.

Slicing. When you really don't want to look like you've been to a salon, this is the most subtle way to brighten your shade. These super-thin highlights are woven under the top layer of hair so the colour peeks through. They're a great option for someone who doesn't want to be in the salon every six weeks for touch-ups, since there are no obvious roots as the colour grows out.
Ribbons. Also called "blue ribbon highlights," these are ideal for natural blondes. The highlights are created with a tint instead of bleach, so they're gentler on the hair and create a less intense shade of blonde.

bouncy HAIR

IT ONLY TAKES TWO SIMPLE STEPS TO GIVE YOUR HAIR BOUNCE AND VOLUME: 1. Flip your head upside down and spray it with a light-hold hair spray.
2. Then flip your head up {slowly} and wrap big sections around a large-barrel curling iron—you can do your whole head in six to ten sections. For extra fluffiness, brush out the curls once they've cooled.

the key to GORGEOUS HAIR COLOUR

KNOW YOURSELF - AND YOUR HAIR...
Dorky as it may sound, you have to be yourself when it comes to hair colour.
If you're fair, don't look at Julia Roberts for inspiration. And if you're olive-tone, you will never pull off Gwyneth Paltrow blonde, no matter how much bleach you pour on. Pale and pinkish skin look best with blonde or light brown hair, while those who have medium or dark skin with yellow or golden undertones should go for more coppery auburns and dark browns. Your hair's texture is also a factor. As a general rule, wavy hair can handle up to five or six shades of colour, but if your hair is pin-straight, stick to more uniform colour—highlights will look very obvious.

glow & tell: MUMMY MAYHEM

THIS WEEK ANOTHER FAVE BLOGGER, JODIE FROM MUMMY MAYHEM shares her 'glow & tell' beauty tips... {Jodie was the behind the genius idea, Bloggers Without Make-Up Day!}
What's the best beauty advice you've ever been given or have discovered?
To always wash or cleanse my face before bed, no matter how tired I am! I didn't have great skin when I was younger and it wasn't until I started cleansing in my late teens/early 20s that my skin started to really clear up. I still get the odd pimple (how annoying - I'm almost 40!), but it's much, much healthier than it was twenty years ago.

What are your can't live-without beauty products? I really do buy a mix of products. I love Revlon for mascaras, eye-liner, brow enhancer, foundation and lipsticks (especially the ColorStay Overtime ones. The colour really does last). For eyeshadows, I'm a big fan of MAC products. I also use MAC blush and concealer, and their range of brushes are gorgeous. I have used Clinique face powder from day dot. With regard to skin care, I keep it pretty simple. I have a cleanser from Napoleon that I use quite often, but usually I just wash with DOVE soap to be honest and I moisturise with Oil of Olay.

What's your best time-saving beauty tip?
A good compact face powder, a touch of mascara and a little lipstick can just brighten the old face up a bit, and takes barely any time at all to apply.  I have just discovered facial cleansing wipes recently - so if I'm super tired, I use one of those - but I don't make a habit of it. A beautician also told me once that it's not super necessary to cleanse twice a day, so long as you remove your make up at night. She suggested using a flannel with warm water to wipe your face with in the morning, and I do this every day.

a peek into MY WEEK

THIS WEEK HAS BEEN SUPER-SUPER-BUSY... crazy in fact! When you're freelance, it either drought or flood - and at the moment it's pouring in the work dept... I love that I've got all these stories to write but it's the late nights and blurry eyes the next day that I'm not that fussed with! Luckily I have an amazing hubbie who makes me hot chocolates to get me through - and has cooked my fave cake {orange cake with blood orange syrup} to have with a cuppa later on tonight...!

Other things that happened this week... the gorgeous Claire from Scissors Paper Rock interviewed me about bellaMUMMA, you can read it HERE... I did a guest blog for The Bottom Of The Ironing Basket, you can check it out HERE... and bellaMUMMA was voted

bad beauty HABIT

SLEEPING ON YOUR STOMACH OR SIDE {THIS IS ONE I'M GUILTY OF}... You know those cheek indents you get from your pillowcase? Nice! Dermatologists say that years of smooshing your face into a piece of fabric like that will cause those lines to stick around—forever. So try sleeping on your back to prevent the problem or, at the very least, change your pillowslip to a silk one rather than cotton. Everything helps!

time to PRIME

FACE PRIMERS ARE PRETTY NEW TO THE BEAUTY ARENA... and I haven't been 100% sure whether I'm into them or not - that was until I started doing some research on them for a freelance story I'm writing! Before I did some sussing out, I wasn't sure if using a primer was face-overload and thought they might clog up your pores since the whole point is to fill in every crease and crevice, making your face smooth and ready for blush, foundation, etc. But they don't! Even though they fill in lines for a face-lift effect, they stick to the surface so it doesn't invade and block the pores. Sensational stuff! Need more proof? Here are a few more reasons why primer should be your make-up must-get list:
* Smooths the skin’s surface and evens out skin tone
* Helps to disguise blemishes and blend in your concealer/makeup more evenly
* Makes your foundation stick around longer
* Fills in fine lines and wrinkles
* Reduces shine
* And finally, primer doesn’t clog pores!

happy birthday BEAUTY FLASH

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT CLARINS BEAUTY FLASH BALM IS 30 YEARS OLD? {That has blown me away!} I remember having it sent to me to try when I was beauty editor at Girlfriend magazine, years ago - and I loved it! I used it then to hide the effects of a late night {partying} - now I use it to cover the effects of a late night {working or getting up to the kids}! If you haven't tried it, it's frickin' fantastic, it instantly eliminates all signs of fatigue and keeps your make-up looking luminous all day!
It also...
* Promotes immediate and long-lasting radiance
* Filmogenic agents tighten, firm and help minimise fine lines and wrinkles so skin becomes smooth and soft
* Strengthens and refines the contours of the face so skin regains firmness and suppleness.
It clever-ly works under make-up or as a mask! CLICK HERE to find out more about this little beauty!

easy BEACHY-WAVES

ONE OF MY FAVE LOOKS IS BEACH-WAVES... and I've discovered a quick, easy way to create them - hooray! Sometimes styles like this can be deceptively difficult to create but here's all you need to know to master this beachy, roughed-wave style. Resist the usual trick of braiding wet hair (which can leave you with waves that are too defined and chunky) and follow these simple steps instead:
1. First, work a mousse through wet hair, which will help to hold the style.
2. Next, divide hair into four to six sections, depending on the thickness of your hair, and twist each section into a little bun. Use hair clips to secure them.
3. Finish by blow drying the style using a diffuser or, to get the look overnight, simply sleep with your hair pinned up. After your hair is dry and you remove the buns, you'll have perfectly disheveled waves.

mid-week MUMMA: KATIE HOLMES

I'M LOVING KATIE HOLMES STRIKING A CLASSIC  JACKIE O pose on the latest New York mag... She tells the mag that her and Tom have decided to homeschool daughter Suri, 4. “She has a teacher who is with her every day,” she says. “We like the one-on-one education. I’m happy that my daughter is strong-willed and determined. You really have to go with what the child is wanting.”

Which is also why the parents give her free reign when it comes to fashion. Along with providing her dad with advice, Suri played the role of stylist when Holmes went to the Met Gala in 2008. “I had this beautiful red gown and these royal-blue shoes that I wasn’t planning on wearing,” she recalls, “but Suri made me put them on and so I was like, ‘Okay, I trust you.’ “

Suri is also vocal about her own wardrobe. “I grew up the youngest of five, so there were a lot of hand-me-downs that I would sort of change up. And Suri and I do that now with her clothes. Or rather, she does it,” Katie explains. “She says, ‘I want this sleeve cut,’ and it’s like, ‘Okay, we’ll cut it.’ She picks out all of her own clothes and has since she was one and half.”

shiny SHINY HAIR

THE SECRET TO GETTING SHINY HAIR  is by styling it with heat... be careful though, it can be damaging if you don't do it correctly! The trick is to always apply a heat-protecting spray and add the nozzle attachment to your blowdryer, then aim it down the hair shaft—this helps the cuticle lie flat. Finish by running a flatiron over strands to seal the cuticle and give hair a glassy surface. If you have curls, wrap them around the barrel of a curling iron.

perfect EYES

LOVING THESE MAKE-UP TIPS FROM THE MAG PROS... The fashion editor at Allure revealed {to Glamour magazine's beauty department} her technique for creating smoky eyes... here it is: Wash your face and dry as usual, then line your upper lash lines with an eye pencil—and then get in the shower. (Don't get your face wet.) The steam from the shower will blend the liner over your lids a bit on its own, and then you just give it a quick smudge after you get out. Allure's beauty editor also had a similarly brilliant-but-unorthodox eye tip: "After washing my face and applying moisturiser, I leave my skin damp and pat concealer on my dark circles—but I don't blend it in. Instead, I let it sink into my skin while getting dressed and putting on the rest of my makeup. It takes about 30 minutes for it to absorb enough that it's no longer detectable, but it covers my dark circles much better."

glow & tell: ANASTACIA DRAWING AND DREAMING

ANOTHER OF MY FAVE BLOGGERS, ANASTACIA FROM ANASTACIA DRAWING AND DREAMING shares her 'glow & tell' beauty tips...
What's your best beauty advice? When it comes to my skincare routine and makeup application I like to keep it simple and fuss free. For me, a good night's sleep does wonders and so does drinking lots of water throught the day {I struggle with this, but I do try!!) The one thing I do do every single day is wear SPF30 sunblock.

What are your can't-live-without beauty products? Ultraceuticals Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30, I love it!!! Cetaphil Cleanser - it's SO cheap and always leaves my skin fresh. I also love Concentrated Clarifier by Dr Natasha Cook {Sydney Dermatologist} - it's fantastic!! And when it comes to makeup, I adore Nars blush in Orgasm - it's the perfect shade for an instant healthy flush!

What's your best time saving tip? As any curly girl would know, a professional blowdry not always makes you feel great - it lasts for days, and saves time and energy wasted on your hair! I also get my hubby to apply colour to my roots {darn those greys} once a month, so that saves me two hours wasted at the salon. {He's become so good at it too!} And another thing I love to do is take time after my shower to moisturise my arms and legs, both usually neglected parts. {A little trickier to do in Winter though!}

happy WEEKEND

HAPPY HAPPY WEEKEND... Hope you experience relaxation and rejuvenation!

friday FAVES

MY FOUR FRIDAY FAVES THIS WEEK ARE...
1. MODELCO'S GEL EYE LINER WITH INBUILT BRUSH...  You know how I love Alexa's cat-eye make-up? And I think I've mentioned my liquid eyeliner application skills aren't that crash-hot? Well, great news! ModelCo has created another clever-clever product that gives you a deeper, more intense look than a traditional kohl pencil or liquid liner - and
{most-importantly} it's super-easy to use! Yep, their new gel eyeliner has contoured brush applicator that helps you apply it like a pro – so whether it’s classic cats-eye à la Alexa or a fine line to subtly enhance and make lashes appear lusciously longer, this is THE liner for you. Put it on your list for September! And in the meantime CLICK HERE to visit ModelCo...

2. 'HEALTHY IS THE NEW SKINNY' TEE... Hooray for this t-shirt fundraiser that's all about promoting health and revolutionizing the values of the fashion industry. 'Healthy is the New Skinny' believes in natural beauty, the kind that can’t be defined by a hip measurement, but is defined by fitness and joy. They believe size standards in fashion today are extremely unrealistic, even harmful - and they're over the distorted image of true beauty, depriving all of us of a chance to see just how good healthy can look. Frickin' fantastic... love it! CLICK HERE to get your tee so you too can start spreading the word...

3. FAWN AND MILK...  is a new Australian label that creates super-gorgeous gift boxes for newborns - and clothing and accessories for children up to the age of 3. The baby boxes are made using products that are recyclable and reusable... recycled wood is used to create beautiful baby rattles and 100% Australian goats’ milk is used to create their soaps. They're so gorgeous. So if you're looking for a gift for a new mumma and bubba, CLICK HERE to browse the collection and to buy online...

4. CASTLE'S RAINBOW CONFETTI GARLANDS... I love these hand-cut paper, linen and felt confetti disks on linen thread that you can hang just about anywhere. Rachel Castle, the creator, says she makes them whenever her and her mum get five minutes spare, which is hardly ever, so get them while you can! CLICK HERE to check out more of Rachel's beauty-full handcrafted or handprinted pieces for the home.

pretty PINK

I LOVE THIS MAKE-UP...
How pretty is it? To copy-cat it at-home, follow these tips...

For the eyes. Brush on a shimmery beige shadow all over your lids then apply a few coats of Maybelline The Colossal Volum'Express Mascara in Black which will give you big, vampy lashes without the clumps.

For the cheeks. Use a cream blush, especially when the weather's warmer (powders can get cakey). Apply it to the apples of your cheeks and blend upward with your fingers to diffuse the poppy-pink colour into a subtle flush.

For the lips. To get a smooth base, prep lips with a balm, then apply a poppy-pink coloured gloss with lots of sheen.

mid-week MUMMA: KATE'S JAM

KATE MOSS HAS GONE PLUM CRAZY... Yes, crazy for plums - and making them into jam! The supermodel is reportedly turning her preserve-making hobby into an official line of jams called Kate’s Damson Jam (a damson is a type of plum). Even daughter Lila Grace, seven, is helping out to make jam with mum up at their Cotswold estate, according to UK tab The Sun. “It started as a hobby, but she’s taking it a lot more seriously after glowing feedback from friends and family,” a source told The Sun. “She’s hoping her plum conserve will be a hit with the public.” The paper also reports that Moss has asked Sir Philip Green and Simon Cowell for their feedback and help in stocking her plum product. Stay tuned!
