BEST BEAUTY ADVICE
The best beauty advice that I have gained over the years is sun protection, as we all know getting burnt and receiving sun damage ages our skin.
* I do believe taking vitamins helps with skin and hair. Daily I take vitamin C, A, D and Evening Primrose Oil. A and C are good anti-oxidents, Evening Primrose Oil helps even out hormones which play a big part in having clear skin. D is good for Calcium absorption, important for bones etc.
* I moisturise everyday all over and have really gotten into exfoliation - body and face. I have needed to exfoliate more as I have gotten a little older.
* I swim a kilometre three times a week, if I am good four. The chlorine is bad for skin and hair but the mental and physical benefits outweigh the costs! I try to go salt water when I can. Keeping fit makes you look younger and is good for circulation in the skin. Releasing endorphins makes you look and feel more vibrant. I can never have enough of that as I never seem to get enough sleep.
FAVOURITE SKINCARE PRODUCTS
I am an SK11 convert and have been for years, everyone's skin is different but it really works for me. The Facial Treatment Essence is great and the core product. I can just tell my skin is softer and clearer when I use it. I also love the Facial Treatment Clear Lotion, it really freshens my skin and seems to minimise pores (a problem for me), the moisturises are great, the cleanser also, the eye cream fab and the Facial Treatment Repair C plumps the skin and really heals.
* I also adore Olay's Definity day facial cream, lovely and light and moisturising. Dermalogica's facial exfoliant is fabulous and thorough, yet not too rough. For the body Kiehl's Body Scrub Coriander, smells refreshing and really gives the skin a good scrub.
* Recently I discovered Antipodes Manuka Honey Mask - delicious and plumps the skin. Another recent find is Gatineau's Melatogenine Force Collagen - it noticeably plumps the skin and tightens pores, the next day my skin looks visibly better and brighter.
* My favourite facial sun cream/moisturiser is Nivea Sun Light Feel Daily Face Veil. It is light and slightly moisturising and funnily enough whenever I have it on people comment on how great my skin looks. It gives a little sheen to the skin and a youthful vibe, people are always surprised when I attribute it to my sun cream. I am also fortunate in that my mother passed on good genes, though she has experienced a lot of problems with minor skin cancers (from reckless/youthful sun baking) she has really amazing skin with hardly any wrinkles on her face - and at 68 that is pretty good!
* I actually moisturise my body with Aqueous Cream from the chemist, cheap and effective - a dermatologist recommended it to me years ago and my bodily skin needs the deep moisturise. I wash with Cetaphil rather than soap - PH balanced and doesn't dry out the skin.
DAYTIME MAKE-UP
* I never wear foundation in the day but try to always wear sun cream. My day make-up consists of mascara, highlighting my cheeks and lips. The make-up no make-up look.
* I adore Lancome's Definicils mascara in black, lengthens and plumps lashes perfectly without being gluggy.
* High Beams by Benefit is a must everyday and night. This light pink reflective cream highlights the cheeks, the sheen makes the skin look dewy and the reflection makes the cheeks look more defined. My quick beauty tip for an immediate youthful lift is High Beams.
favourite glosses
Lancome Juicy Tubes range, great colours and moisturising, nice and glossy
Lancome Sweet Balm
Lucas' Papaw Ointment
EVENING MAKE-UP
* Since trying Dior's Shimmer Powder in Diamant Rose I am addicted. I find it the perfect blush, I put this on my cheeks over my foundation and a small amount of High Beams. It is worth investing in a good blush brush to ensure even coverage. The Dior Rose Diamant, has a similar effect to the High Beams - a reflective sheen and a little dewey but also more powdery with a stronger rose colour for definition at night. Subtle definition.
* My foundation is Napoleon Perdis China Doll B1. It is very pale, powdery and smooth. I do not need an additional powder and it never makes my skin shiny, just works well with my skin and deceptively makes it look much more even and porcelain-like than it actually is.
favourite lipsticks
I love a classic Chanel: No. 14 for classic vibrant Red. No. 18 for dark and sultry.
Bloom lipstick in Bell is a lovely and intense red.
Australis Colour Inject in Charleston is a soft plum colour a little 90s and fun, quite moisturising.
HAIR CARE
* Global Keratin Hair Taming System Serum - I use this every time I wash my hair it is fantastic. It immediately absorbs into the hair, remains light and makes the hair soft. My hair is extremely bleached and long; my hairdresser advises cutting but I am too attached and so I do what I can to revive it. This serum is a god send and smells lovely.
fave hair products
Redken Blonde Glam shampoo - smells delicious and is gentle, makes my poor bleached hair soft.
Joico K-PAK Reconstruct Conditioner - really helps rejuvenate and soften my coloured-bleached-to-death long hair.
Paul Mitchell cleansing shampoo - good for removing chlorine, I am an avid swimmer.
De Lorenzo Nova Fusion Silver Shampoo - good for removing yellow-brass tones out of long blonde tresses that should be silvery blonde!
