copy her MAKE-UP: ASHLEE SIMPSON

YOU KNOW HOW I LOVE A GOOD CAT'S EYE EYELINER ARRANGEMENT?
... well this love-ly look landed in my inbox this morning - along with the DIY's!
There are a coupla ways to copy-cat it... The first is to draw the line with eyeliner, then use a crease brush (an eye shadow brush that comes to a soft point) and carefully draw on top of the swoosh. But if you want a thinner line, you need an eyeliner brush--preferably the pointy kind as opposed to the flat type. You just wet it a little first, load it up with shadow and draw a curved little line coming out of your outer corners. Dah-nah, done!

high BROW

BROWS CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR FACE...
they can frame your eyes, make you look younger and shape your face, if you get them right...

Here's an inside shaping guide...
1. The classic pencil trick is the best way to find your perfect brow shape. It’s easy: hold a pencil vertically against your nose and pluck stray hair to the right of it. Switch the pencil to the other side of your nose and repeat.

2. To get your best arch, hold your pencil again, but now angle it diagonally over the centre of your iris. Your ideal brow high point is where the pencil hits the brow. Tweeze just three or four hairs from underneath to enhance the arch.

3. For the right length, place a pencil diagonally from the base of your nose to the outer corner of your eye. Where the pencil and brow bone meet is where your brow should end.

beauty-full BANGS

THE QUICKEST WAY TO CHANGE YOUR HAIRDO...
{without making too much commitment} is to get bangs (a fringe)...
Here's how to get them &  keep them looking great...
DO IT YOURSELF...
If you can't make it to the salon for a trim, buy yourself a pair of hair shears (the blades on regular scissors are too thick).  * Starting with dry hair, gather your bangs in one hand, then gently pull them down and rest them in a point on the bridge of your nose, holding them in place by pressing your thumb on top of the ends (your thumb should be upright, above the rest of your hand). * Don't pull them too taut because when you let go, they'll spring up and be too short.  * Snip the smallest amount possible, going up and around your thumb tip. This way, the bangs end up a little longer as they approach the temples—it creates a nice, natural shape. * If your fringe is thick and straight all the way across, though, see a pro: It's really hard to get an even line doing it yourself and many hairstylists will trim bangs for free.
AVOID PRODUCT OVERLOAD...
The heat of a dryer is enough to tame bangs - using products can make them greasy or crunchy. The exception is fine hair, which can benefit from volumizer. If flyaways are a problem, mist a brush with hair spray and running it over the bangs.
MAINTENANCE...
A fringe requires frequent trims—about every three weeks—to keep them looking good.

$uper-$aver TRICK$

WANT MORE DASH FOR YOUR 'BEAUTY' CASH?
Here's how to make your beauty-dollar go further...
* Don’t waste product. Using anything more than a pea-size dollop of moisturiser is a waste.
* Apply foundation with your fingers. Sponges absorb and waste product.
* Turn bottles upside down to get every last bit of product. If you can’t squeeze anymore out, cut them in half.
* Store make-up in a dry, cool place with caps on tight to prevent melting and colour separation.
* When you think you’ve finished your lipstick, there’s about a quarter of it still left. Scoop it out with a knife and mix it with lip balm to make a gloss.
* Check if your hairdresser has training nights. Trainees will colour and cut for a fraction of the normal price under the watchful eye of senior stylists.
* Multi-use your make-up. Use lipstick as a blusher; blusher as a lip colour and eyeshadow; your eye pencils as lip and brow pencils; and your eyeshadow, liner and mascara as brow definers.

copy-cat her HAIR: BLAKE'S BRAIDS

LOVE THIS HAIR! IT'S A BIT BOHO, A BIT MERMAID, A LOT BEAUTY-FULL...
So imagine my delight when I found the diy instructions from Blake's hairstylist himself, Rod Ortega... and dah nah, here they are:
1. Blow-dry and section ~ start by blow-drying the hair with a wave-enhancing product.

2. Braid and ponytail ~ Ortega used a one-half-inch curling tong to curl random strands of hair. He then pinned her hair to the side and braided three strands into a fishtail plait for an effortless effect.
CLICK HERE to find out how-to-do!

3. Break it up ~ to make the style look more carefree, pull a few pieces of face-framing layers out to the sides. Then, break up the braids with your fingers as needed.

4. The final touch ~  affix a gold and diamond floral hair accessory to the base of the braids, right behind the ear.

5. The finished look ~ wear the look during the day for a casually cool style, and for night, dress it up with your own sparkling hair accessory. For extra shine, spritz on a shine lacquer, just like Ortega did.

words of WISDOM #52

barely THERE make-up

NEXT-TO-NUDE MAKE-UP DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BORING...
you can mix it up a bit, like in these beauty pix from Vogue Japan, August 2011!
Here's the basics you need to know to update a barely-there look:

* Super-natural doesn't have to mean bare so even out skintone with a fine layer of tinted moisturiser and use concealer with a brush where needed and finish with a light dusting of powder from a puff.

* To accentuate eyes when going for the barely-there trend, use a soft eyeliner brush with an espresso brown eye-shadow to softly outline as close to the lash line as possible.

* Choose shades that are as close to your natural skin glow as possible. Cheeks should be one shade darker than your naturally pinched glow and lipstick should match your natural lip colour and look like a stain. You also need to see your lip texture through the lips not the lipstick sitting on top.

* Don’t use a nude shades straight up - use your finger instead and press onto the lip so it looks like a stain rather than a solid colour. And don't be afraid of using gloss!

break-free from a HAIR RUT

HANGING ON TO AN OLD CUT OR COLOUR?
Here's how to break-free...
BOND WITH YOUR HAIRDRESSER
Book a consultation with a recommended hairdresser before making any drastic decisions. Listen to the stylist’s recommendations and see if you’re comfortable with him/her before making an appointment. Remember you’re in control, so don’t get talked into anything you don’t want. Also take into account the hairdresser's own hair, it's a good indication of the result you'll achieve.
TAKE PICTURES OF STYLES YOU LIKE
Look for pictures of models or celebrities with similar bone structure and be realistic, if the model or celeb has small features and long hair, and you have strong features and short hair, the style isn’t going to work.
 UPDATE LONG HAIR
If you’ve had long hair forever, have a few centimetres snipped off - long hair can drag down your features. Having layers or a fringe cut, or a halo-colouring effect, can lift features and instantly take years off.
STILL WALKING ON THE DARK SIDE?
As you get older, black or dark brown hair starts to throw unflattering shades on your face. You can still have dark hair but update it with carefully placed highlights to soften the effect and break up any re-growth.
 HIGHLIGHT OVERKILL
A build-up of highlights ends up looking one-dimensional and can make hair look thinner. Adding depth cleans up skin tones and creates different textures so light will bounce off the hair. The result is child-like - youthful hair.
DON’T FALL INTO A ROUTINE
Once you’ve found a good hairdresser don’t allow them to fall into a routine. Encourage them to try subtle changes to keep you both interested - and your hair interesting.

friday fave #4: CAMPARI - CITRUS SORBET

PERFECTION FOR A FRIDAY AFTERNOON...
don't you think?

1, 2, 3, BLUSH & GLOW

GET GORGEOUS IN 3 EASY STEPS
by following these expert quickie tips...

1. It's all about buffing the skin. Foundation should look sheer and light - so apply your favourite formula using a non-latex sponge. Use one side to swipe on a thin layer of base, and then go over your skin once more with the clean side of the sponge to buff away any excess.

2. The bigger the brush, the better. Use a giant brush for applying blush —it'll pick up less powder than traditional blush brushes, for a prettier flush of colour.

3. Highlight right. Powder highlighters go on heavier, and are best for this time of year {winter} - a creamy highlighter is best for warmer weather; dab it above the cheekbones, and under your lower lip and at the cupid's bow - it enhances the shape of the lips.

snippet of MY DAY

I HEARD THIS 'BLAST FROM THE PAST' WHILE I WAS IN THE CAR TODAY...
... and WO-ARH what a film clip - talk about 'super' models!!!
{It was released in 1990 - OMG - where have the years gone!}
X

plump up THE VOLUME -UPDATE

AS WE GET OLDER THE LOSS OF VOLUME IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST FACTORS THAT AGES OUR FACE...
{You know the droopy, sad-looking face you get when your age and gravity starts working against you - dammit!}

Don't panic! We now have available to us is 'midface/cheek revolumising' procedures, that will turn back the clock {and make you look like you've been on the most relaxing holiday} without having to go under the knife. Cosmetic doctors, like the very-charismatic Dr Peter Bakaric, Cosmetic Physician at the Collagen Face Centre, are using the latest dermal fillers and newest injecting techniques to instantly add youthful volume to the face to plump out
lines and creases with long-lasting results.

“Dermal fillers have dramatically improved over the last couple of years," says Dr Bakaric. "Voluma, SubQ and the very latest product Modelis by Mondeal/Anteis are the new breed of long-lasting Hyaluronic based fillers, {especially suited to cheeks/midface, jawlines and nose reshaping}, that last 12-24 months and are sugar-based."
{What the what?} This means they are extremely safe and have very low complication rates.

Dr Bakaric is also currently trialling the new mechanical delivery pen/system for Esthelis/Fortelis/Modelis fillers - which means it's easier for him to use, the product goes further, it's more predictable and the results are considerably improved.
{This is great news too if you're needle-phobic!}
