short-dress-worthy LEGS

ADD THESE KEY LEG EXERCISES TO YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE
~ and you'll not only get yourself some hot 'pins', you'll improve your strength and balance...

1. CALF LIFT: to strengthen and sculpt calves; and enhance balance.
HOW TO: Stand with the balls of your feet on a step or curb and your heels hanging over the edge. Hold a wall or railing for balance. Slowly lift up on your tiptoes as high as you can go, and then slowly lower your heels until they've dropped lower than the step.
Repeat 10 times.

2. SQUATS: to strengthen and tone quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteal muscles.
HOW TO: Start with your feet hip-width apart. Then shift your hips back and down, as if you were lowering yourself into a chair. As you do this, engage your abdominal muscles and raise your arms to shoulder height, either straight in front or folded, as shown. Stop just before your knees reach a 90-degree angle; don't let your knees move past your toes. Rest your weight back on your heels.
Pause, then slowly return to the starting position and repeat 10 times.

3. FORWARD LUNGES: to work and shape your entire leg; + enhance balance and coordination.
HOW TO: Stand with your feet hip-width apart and a weight in each hand (or skip the weights altogether). Take a giant step forward with your left foot, lifting your right heel off the ground. Moving very slowly and breathing naturally, lower your torso straight down, keeping your upper body perpendicular to the ground. Stop when your back knee is about 5 cms from the ground, and your front knee reaches a 90-degree angle. Keep your left knee in line with your ankle (don't push past your toes). Pause, and then slowly come back up. Do this 9 more times, and then step your feet back together.
Repeat 10 times on the other side.

get a little CHEEKY

BLUSH CAN WAKE UP YOUR WHOLE FACE, IF YOU APPLY IT PROPERLY...
First tip: Make it easy for yourself and use a cream blush to achieve a foolproof radiant look.

“To create a two dimensional glow, first sweep bronzing powder across the cheek with a big blush brush,” says make-up artist Meg Guthrie (we've worked together many times over the years).

“Then apply a sunkissed pink cream blush just to the apples of cheek. The trick is to smile to make the target area more pronounced, then apply the blush with your fingers, right to the centre of the chubbiest part of your cheek,” she says. “Blend in circles, keeping the more intense part of colour on the apples of your cheek.”

how to DE-STRESS tip #1

GO INTO THE LIGHT...
"Stress can be triggered when our bodies don't know what time it is," says Julie Holland,
an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. "Exposing your retina to sunlight resets your circadian rhythm so your brain is on a schedule."

Take a walk outside without sunglasses for 20 minutes a day, three times a week. Phototherapy lamps and vitamin-D supplements also help.

younger-looking HAIR

GLEAMING, SHINY HAIR IS 'YOUTH-FULL',
so it's no surprise that dull, drab hair can age you!
Pollution, harsh chemicals, and heat styling can all turn hair ho-hum, but a few extra steps will ensure your hair shines...

• Start in the shower. Look for shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner with ingredients like olive oil, jojoba, and rice proteins. Alternate these with your regular formulas to prevent buildup. Be wary of clarifying shampoos; they can deprive hair of much-needed moisture and even strip the dye off color-treated hair. After you shampoo, apply a conditioner evenly through the ends and rinse thoroughly. If your hair is colour-treated, use a hair mask weekly to replenish moisture.

• Prep work. After towel-drying, apply either a glossing cream or shine serum with high levels of panthenol (provitamin B5). Glossing creams are lighter and have less silicone, so they're more appropriate for women with fine to medium hair. Use a shine serum if you have frizzy or coarse hair or unruly curls. (Avoid saltwater sprays; they tend to leave a matte finish.)

• Dry the right way. Place a round, natural-bristle brush under a section of hair. Start at the roots, and hold the dryer so the nozzle aims downward—never up against the shaft. Slide the brush down without twisting it, to seal the cuticle.

• Add a spritz. While your hair is still warm from the dryer, flip it upside down and mist the ends with a shine spray. This ensures you won't get too much product near the roots. If you need a touch-up during the day, spritz some shine spray on your hands and run them lightly through your hair.

get (your skin} GLOWING

TO GET {AND A KEEP} A GLOW YOU NEED TO EXFOLIATE AND NOURISH YOUR
SKIN ONCE A WEEK...
Kylie Oates, Beauty and Ayurvedic Specialist shares her skin recipes to get you glowing:

Gentle hydrating exfoliator: Mix two tablespoons of almond meal with one tablespoon of Manuka honey. Apply to face in small circular motion then rinse off with warm water.

Enzyme peel for all skin types (except sensitive): Using the skin of a papaya flesh side down, rub over face and neck and leave for five minutes then rinse off.

Mask for norm/dry skin: Mash 1/2 an avocado and mix in a tablespoon of full cream natural yoghurt. Apply to face and neck and leave on for five to 10 minutes before rinsing off.

Brown sugar body scrub: Mix a cup of brown sugar with a good quality cold pressed oil (eg olive, almond or macadamia) into a paste, then add six drops of sweet orange essential oil. Apply in the shower - while skin is warm - using large circular movements towards the heart. Rinse off to reveal hydrated and heavenly-smelling skin.

diy PROTEIN PACK for SHINY, STRONG hair

diy PROTEIN PACK for SHINY, STRONG hair
DOES YOUR HAIR NEED A LITTLE PICK-ME-UP?
Read on, my friend...
Your hair is made up of proteins, which can break up from exposure to the sun, chemicals and harsh conditions - so what better way to strengthen your strands than to put some back
with this DIY protein pack!

What you'll need:
2 eggs
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup olive oil

What to do:
1. Beat the eggs until they become frothy and add in the olive oil.

2. Whisk until it's fully blended together and add in the yogurt, mixing until it's a creamy consistency. Then add the honey.

3. Comb out any knots and tangles in your {damp} hair, and spread the mixture from your roots to your ends, combing it through.

4. Wrap your hair in a warm towel for twenty to thirty minutes before your rinse it out and shampoo.

Hel-lo shiny hair!

{Source: Self}

the key to GORGEOUS HAIR COLOUR

KNOW YOURSELF - AND YOUR HAIR...
Dorky as it may sound, you have to be yourself when it comes to hair colour!

If you're fair, don't look at Julia Roberts for inspiration. And if you're olive-tone, you will never pull off Gwyneth Paltrow blonde, no matter how much bleach you pour on.

Pale and pinkish skin look best with blonde or light brown hair, while those who have medium or dark skin with yellow or golden undertones should go for more coppery auburns and dark browns.

Your hair's texture is also a factor. As a general rule, wavy hair can handle up to five or six shades of colour, but if your hair is pin-straight, stick to more uniform colour—highlights will look very obvious.

insider beauty TIPS

BEAUTY TIPS FROM THE BEAUTY BIBLE...
Allure magazine!

* Pink lips are perfect right now. Baby pink glosses are most flattering on pale skin, rosy pinks looks best on medium complexions, and purplish or berry-ish pinks complement dark skin.

* To make hair appear thicker, condition very fine or sparse hair before shampooing.

* Skip blush on the apples of your cheeks after age 40—it accentuates sagging.
